Wow. Learning to care for wildlife and a stipend? Score!
Young people from San Pedro and Wilmington: put down that smart phone and get your hands dirty as you learn how to care for injured and oiled animals through a new internship program at the International Bird Rescue’s San Pedro center.
The Academic Internship Program is for young people 18 and older who are interested in biology, wildlife preservation and/or environmental conservation. In short, young people with a heartbeat for local wildlife.
Two courses of study and training will be offered: One more hands-on (wildlife care and rehabilitation methods) and another more heady (data analysis and clinical research).
Interns must either live in the San Pedro/Wilmington area or attend colleges or universities in these communities. Exceptional high school seniors from the area who are at least 18 years of age at the start of the internship are also eligible to apply.
The new Academic Internship Program is made possible by a $28,000 grant from the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation. Interns will receive a $1,000 stipend to be disbursed in regular increments during the course of their internships.
